Thrown tickets

Written by Nat McCleary and produced by the National Theatre of Scotland, Thrown is a sharp, energetic play that explores identity, belonging, and heritage through the unlikely lens of backhold wrestling. The story follows five very different women who gather in the mud of the Highland Games circuit. As they train, compete, and clash, their personal struggles and diverse backgrounds collide. Audiences looking for thrown tickets will experience a production that combines physical theatre, intense choreography, and witty, rhythmic dialogue to bring this traditional Scottish sport to life on stage.

The drama is deeply physical, with the actors performing actual wrestling moves that mirror the emotional grappling of their characters. It challenges conventional ideas of Scottish identity with humour and a contemporary soundtrack. For theatregoers who compare thrown tickets across different venues, the show offers a unique blend of sports drama and character-driven storytelling. The production has earned critical praise for its authentic performances, its choreography, and its fresh, inclusive perspective on modern Scotland and its ancient traditions.
