About The Twelve Dates Of Christmas
Written by Ginna Hoben, this contemporary one-woman comedy offers a hilarious and relatable antidote to traditional holiday romance. The story begins when Mary sees her fiancé kissing another woman on national television during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Over the course of the following year, she navigates a series of disastrous setups, awkward encounters, and family gatherings. Audiences comparing the twelve dates of christmas tickets will find a sharp, fast-paced monologue that skewers the social pressures of the festive season.
The staging is typically minimalist, relying on a single actor to bring a colourful cast of dates, family members, and colleagues to life through sharp physical comedy and vocal characterisations. Since its premiere at the American Shakespeare Center, the play has become a popular alternative holiday tradition for theatres looking to offer something more cynical yet ultimately heartwarming. The intimate performance style ensures that every member of the audience feels like a close confidant receiving the gossip firsthand.
