About The Wiz
The Wiz is a soulful musical retelling of L. Frank Baum's classic novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Created with a book by William F. Brown and music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls, the stage production infuses the journey down the Yellow Brick Road with gospel, funk, soul, and R&B. Following Dorothy after a tornado sweeps her from Kansas into the vibrant land of Oz, she teams up with the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion to seek the mysterious Wizard. Anyone hunting for the wiz tickets can expect a joyful narrative grounded in Black culture and self-discovery.
The original production earned widespread critical acclaim and captured multiple Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. Audiences experience energetic choreography, dazzling costume design, and classic show tunes like Ease on Down the Road, Home, and Brand New Day. The lively orchestra and powerful vocal arrangements create an uplifting atmosphere for fans of all ages.
